Keyword Reports

Keyword reports are reports containing the results of a detailed analysis that will show the best keywords for your type of online business.

What are Keywords?

Almost every Internet journey begins with a search, and that search begins with a keyword. A keyword is what a searcher will type in to a search engine to find information.

Keywords are not what you think your business is about – keywords are what the user thinks your business is about. And sometimes these two things are very different. So the more we know about how people search and what search engines do with those keywords to determine a site ranking, the more success we will have.

What is PageRank?

Google lists web sites according to PageRank. PageRank is a grade assigned to a website and it ranges from 0 (very poor) to 10 (top rating). Your website PageRank determines the chances your site has of appearing in the top 30 sites returned from a search.
Keywords are the key! Without the right key you cannot open a locked door. Without the right keywords your site will be locked to the search engines.

Keyword Research

Keyword research should be the first step in any process that involves optimizing and marketing a website through the search engines. It is the most important part of the process, yet often one that is set aside as either largely unimportant, or not important enough to spend time and effort on.
It has been recommended by the experts that 20% of all optimization effort should be focused on keyword research.
There is a big difference between a marketing campaign that delivers a lot of traffic to your site and one that delivers relevant traffic to your site. More often than not, sites that generate smaller amounts of targeted traffic see a better return on investment than sites that generate larger amounts of untargeted traffic.
A steakhouse full of vegetarians will make less profit that a specialist cheese emporium with two cheese connoisseurs waiting impatiently at the counter.

Common Misconceptions

There are two common misconceptions when it comes to keywords. These are:

  1. The idea that you know what words a client might use to search for your business. More often than not you would be wrong.
  2. Those terms that are the most used are the ones to add to your site. But remember what we said about relevance. It’s no good having clients visit your site only to click away in the next second because they feel you have fooled them in to visiting your site under false pretences. Keywords must be relevant to the goods or services you are selling.
